How is COVID-19 Affecting the Furniture Industry?

This year has looked vastly different than many of us would have anticipated as we entered into 2020. COVID-19 has impacted our lives in so many areas from travel, to social gatherings, and even schools. We have been spending more time at home, and you may find yourself wanting to create or update different rooms throughout your house. Whether your children are learning digitally and need a dedicated virtual learning space, or you need more functional furniture as you have more family members at home than in the past; now is the perfect time to bring in new pieces that make our new normal an easier adjustment.

Sadly, if you have browsed furniture stores, you may be disappointed to find that shipping and order fulfillment has been greatly delayed due to COVID-19. Many furniture retailers only carry a small stock in-store or online and have to place orders for the new demand. Fulfilling these new orders can take months! This can be extremely frustrating when you are trying to make your home more functional now only to realize that you will have to wait several months for that to happen.

Thankfully, at Furniture of Dalton we have a huge warehouse with in-stock furniture that you can take home the same day! We pride ourselves on maintaining a robust selection and inventory for our customers especially during these unprecedented times. If you are preparing for virtual learning for your children and need a new desk for them to work at, we have great options like the Two-Drawer Desk below. This is the perfect space for little ones and teens to house their schoolwork and participate in online class, and the best part is that you can take it home today!

We also have our Labor Day Sale happening from August 20 - September 9. Pay 0% interest for 60 months on purchases of $1,999 or more with equal monthly payments or receive 15% off of your purchase. This is a great opportunity to get the furniture that you have been eying at a great price! With Furniture of Dalton's large selection of in-stock furniture, you can pick out the perfect piece and take it home that day.

As we get ready to enter into the holiday season, we also have the selection you need to make family gatherings a success with our Gathering Sale from September 10 - October 3. Receive a 20% discount on chairs with the purchase of a table. Enjoy spending time with close friends and family around a gorgeous new table complete with enough chairs so that everyone has a seat at this year’s holiday celebration!

With the uncertainty that this year has brought on, don’t let delayed furniture orders cause you undue stress. Visit our 120,000 square-foot showroom today and take advantage of in-stock pieces that you can take home immediately! We are open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm. Back to School Tips

As summer draws to an end and we get ready for the transition back to school, preparation this year is sure to look different from years past. Whether you are planning for your children to head back to in-person learning, fully digital learning, or a combination of the two, prepping for you and your children’s “new normal” can be difficult to navigate. We understand, and we wanted to share a few ways you can best prepare for the school year ahead!

  1. Continue your back-to-school traditions (with slight adjustments). If you always take the kids shopping for back-to-school clothes and new school supplies, continue that tradition, even if it’s online. Even if they will be participating in fully digital learning, continuing habits and traditions that you have practiced in previous years will help make the transition into the new school year feel more familiar. Still take your traditional first day of school photos and, if you’re learning from home, create a new tradition that reinforces the positive side of the new normal like a mid-day dance party. Making this new routine a positive experience is a great way to get your kids excited for the upcoming school year!

  1. Create a structured and inviting learning environment. Teachers do a great job of decorating and arranging their classrooms in fun and engaging ways because they know it affects how their students learn. Even if your child won’t be learning in the traditional classroom this year, you can still create a space at home that encourages learning and creativity. Setting up a desk like they would have in class will help your child recognize that this is the space where they get their schoolwork done. Encourage reading by having a bookshelf stocked with fun, age-appropriate books and create a reading nook with a fun rug and reading chair. If you have young children, try to actively participate in reading with them. If your children are old enough for independent reading, designate 30 minutes to an hour a day of reading. 1. Incorporate exercise. Learning digitally can be very effective, but it can be difficult to make sure your child is moving and exercising throughout the day. Incorporating a fun family exercise in your day is a great way to help your children burn energy so they can be effective learners. Plus it gets the whole family involved! There are great options online for family-friendly workouts or you can incorporate a fun game or hobby like tennis or walking. Switch it up daily or every few days to make exercise fun and engaging!

No matter what your learning situation looks like this year, know that you are not alone. Every family is facing a new normal that we are each navigating the best we can. At Furniture of Dalton, we are rallying alongside you and would love to help you create a space in your home for digital learning, so that you have the best school year possible! We have a wide selection of desks, bookshelves, comfy reading chairs, and rugs to create a classroom in your home that helps your kids feel ready to learn and excel in the year ahead. Call us today to schedule an appointment or book an appointment online through Facebook. We look forward to helping you navigate these times!
