How is COVID-19 Affecting the Furniture Industry?

This year has looked vastly different than many of us would have anticipated as we entered into 2020. COVID-19 has impacted our lives in so many areas from travel, to social gatherings, and even schools. We have been spending more time at home, and you may find yourself wanting to create or update different rooms throughout your house. Whether your children are learning digitally and need a dedicated virtual learning space, or you need more functional furniture as you have more family members at home than in the past; now is the perfect time to bring in new pieces that make our new normal an easier adjustment.

Sadly, if you have browsed furniture stores, you may be disappointed to find that shipping and order fulfillment has been greatly delayed due to COVID-19. Many furniture retailers only carry a small stock in-store or online and have to place orders for the new demand. Fulfilling these new orders can take months! Thankfully, at Furniture of Dalton we have a huge warehouse with in-stock furniture that you can take home the same day! We pride ourselves on maintaining a robust selection and inventory for our customers especially during these unprecedented times. If you are preparing for virtual learning for your children and need a new desk for them to work at, we have great options like the Two-Drawer Desk below. This is the perfect space for little ones and teens to house their schoolwork and participate in online class, and the best part is that you can take it home today!

We also have our Labor Day Sale happening from August 20 - September 9. Pay 0% interest for 60 months on purchases of $1,999 or more with equal monthly payments or receive 15% off of your purchase. This is a great opportunity to get the furniture that you have been eying at a great price! With Furniture of Dalton's large selection of in-stock furniture, you can pick out the perfect piece and take it home that day.

As we get ready to enter into the holiday season, we also have the selection you need to make family gatherings a success with our Gathering Sale from September 10 - October 3. Timeless Furniture Pieces That Will Never Go Out Of Style

Timeless Furniture Pieces That Will Never Go Out Of Style

Posted on: October 10, 2019

Share this:

Some of us have the design bug; we absolutely love arranging our spaces.

If we aren't changing our furniture out completely, we're rearranging it every three months.

We swap out the art on our walls every chance we get.

And, if you were to take a knife and try to cut through the walls, you'd have to get through 20 layers of paint because we change our room colors with the seasons.

The employees at the local furniture store know our names and treat us like part of the family because they know when they see us, commissions soar.

Visiting our homes is always an adventure because you never know if the house will be the same as last time.

Of course, other people don't want to be bothered with design.

And there's nothing wrong with that.

The walls are white, and the same art has been on the walls for years, and they're fine with it. Really.

Our design-averse friends may never rearrange furniture, and they still have the original hardwood floors that were there on move-in day.

That furniture store down the road? Not only do the employees not know their name, but people who don't care about design don't even know there's a furniture store down the road.

People who see design as a big fuss, want classic furniture that doesn't have to be replaced.

They want their couch to look good no matter the decade.

And, trendy isn't in their vocabulary.

So, in honor of the 'don't replace what isn't broken' people out there, we've compiled a list of classic furniture pieces that will never go out of style.

These pieces can be bought and passed down from generation to generation.

Table Of Contents

  • Chesterfield Sofa

  • Windsor Chair

  • Trestle Dining Table

  • Wingback Chair

  • Tulip Table

  • Freestanding Tub

  • Buy It For Life

The Chesterfield Sofa

Chesterfield sofas are hard to miss.

It's low back, high arm design along with its buttoning, can be spotted from a mile away.

This classic sofa can be found everywhere from stately homes to luxury hotel lobbies and your living room.

The name Chesterfield was coined in the 1800s, but the sofa likely originated 100 years before that.

It's thought to be named after Lord Philip Stanhope, the fourth Earl of Chesterfield, who wanted a piece of furniture that could be sat on without the worry of creasing your suit.

That origin story closely aligns with the sofa's association with high-class and fashionability.

The Windsor Chair

Simple and elegant, the Windsor chair was first used in the Windsor Castle gardens in 18th century England and quickly spread soon after that.

Now you can find them in even the quaintest of homes.

The use of the chair became so widespread that it crossed the Atlantic and became a mainstay in the American colonies, starting in Philadelphia in the late 1700s.

The Windsor chair has remained a staple ever since in cottage and country styles, reflecting its origins, but is easily mixed into other design styles.

Trestle dining table

The Trestle Dining Table

Unlike a glass or mid-century dining table, a trestle-style dining table is a timeless classic because of its adaptability.

One of the main reasons it's so timeless is because it's made out of timber.

Timber furniture pieces are connected to the natural world in a very visible way, helping it suit a variety of interior design styles.

Because of this, the Trestle dining table has maintained its popularity throughout various trends.

The Wingback Chair

Also known as "wing" chairs, Wingback Chairs were initially created for function rather than style.

The original Wingback chairs were made to be positioned next to the fireplace, where the wings would envelop the heat from the fire around you and prevent drafts.

Today we use wing chairs for more stylistic reasons, as the designs of the wings diverge from the standard forms and range in various shapes and sizes.

The Tulip Table

When Eero Saarinen set out to eliminate the "slum of legs" found under four-legged chairs and tables, he came up with the Tulip Collection.

Named after it's a likeness to the flower, the Tulip Collection is a hallmark of mid-century modern design.

The Tulip table, in particular, stands out because of its ability to blend with any design style and can be used in any room.

The iconic sculptural curves fit a wide range of table sizes, from coffee and side tables to indoor and outdoor dining tables for the whole family.

Freestanding tub

The Freestanding Tub

Although it has gained some momentum in recent years, the Freestanding tub is not a new concept.

In fact, it has been around for thousands of years.

The history of a freestanding tub is evidence itself of its timelessness, and a variety of designs, such as tubs with feet, can be used in any design.

Remember though, even though a freestanding tub is beautiful, it's not always very practical.

A family with kids who like to splash and throw their toys around might want to opt for another type of tub.
